In Taylor's words
I didn't think mold could affect me
I used to believe mold was something that either wouldn't affect me or was something only people in the health world worried about. Then it took me down completely. Combined with a few other health factors, I couldn't recover.
The first clue came when we went camping. My worst symptoms, heart problems and numbness in my fingers, disappeared when we left the house. When we came home, they came back.
We tried a quick fix first
Our first steps into the mold world weren't good ones. We paid someone who fogged our house with a chemical treatment and promised it would solve everything. Within a few hours of coming home, my symptoms were back.
That's when we learned there are no shortcuts. You have to find where the mold actually is.
Real testing, real answers
We turned to research-backed testing. It found mold in most rooms of the house, and our AC system was heavily contaminated. We replaced the entire AC system and all of the ductwork. My heart palpitations went away, and our kids' symptoms got better.
Then we got Jessie. She helped us locate a source of mold in almost every other room. We remediated nearly every room of the house, including removing and replacing all of the attic insulation. I got better, and so did our kids.
Other families needed the same help
Jessie was incredible for us, and we thought maybe one or two people a month would want help finding mold with a dog. After we posted our first website, we were getting multiple calls a day from people who needed the same help we did.
I grew up remodeling houses alongside my dad, an engineer, and we've remodeled our own homes too. Soon after starting with Jessie, I got licensed in Texas so I could check everything else, take samples, and be a more effective mold inspector. Today we bring a full toolkit to every home, from moisture meters and thermal imaging to real-time air testing with our InstaScope.
